Google Pixel 8 Review: Design

The Pixel 8 has a smaller design, making it suitable for individuals who prefer compact smartphones. With dimensions of 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm and weighing 187g, it may not be the slimmest or lightest option available, but its weight distribution is well-balanced, providing a luxurious feel when held.

Body Ratio

Additionally, the phone is equipped with durable Gorilla Glass Victus on both the front and back, as well as an aluminium frame for added sturdiness. With its impressive screen-to-body ratio, the Pixel 8 exudes a sense of premium quality from every angle. The phone also boasts an IP68 rating, providing enhanced dust and water resistance. With a 6.2-inch OLED screen, the Pixel 8 boasts an FHD+ resolution and supports a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. Additionally, it offers HDR10+ technology and reaches a peak brightness of 2000 nits. The screen’s exceptional brightness provided a seamless experience when using the device outdoors.

Outstanding Clarity

The screen’s outstanding clarity and seamless performance make it perfect for a range of activities, such as watching videos and playing games. Enjoying content on Netflix was an immensely satisfying experience due to the screen’s vibrant brightness and ideal saturation levels.

The slightly smaller screen size caters to users who prefer more manageable devices while still delivering a premium visual experience.

Google Pixel 8 Review: Battery

The device comes with a 4,575mAh battery that has the capacity to comfortably last throughout a typical workday, unless you are an avid gamer. The device is equipped with the capability to support fast charging up to 30W, although it does not come with a power adaptor. It takes approximately 85 minutes to fully charge the device.

Google Pixel 8 Review: Performance

The Pixel 8 is equipped with Google’s newest Tensor G3 chip, which includes a range of enhancements. By combining Google’s exceptional stock Android experience with its most advanced chipset to date, the Pixel 8 offers competent performance for everyday tasks and brief gaming sessions.

Noticeable Benifits

Despite not being the most powerful chipset in its segment, the phone does exhibit some slight stutters and lags. While this may not be a significant drawback, it will be noticeable to knowledgeable users. On the positive side, Google’s integration of high-quality software and AI features with the hardware provides a reliable experience for basic tasks.

Security & Gaming Support

While the device is highly responsive and smooth, it may not surpass other Android phones when it comes to intense usage like long gaming sessions. One notable feature of the Pixel 8 is its dedication to providing seven years of Android and security updates. This extensive support guarantees that the device will remain up-to-date and secure until at least October 2030. Not many other manufacturers offer such extended support, which puts Google on par with Apple. This offers users peace of mind, knowing that they can enjoy longevity and potentially higher resale value.

AI capabilities

In addition, the Pixel 8 showcases Google’s latest generative AI capabilities, which include a range of image and video editing tools, improvements to the voice assistant, and other features. It also guarantees upcoming updates in the near future. Furthermore, the Pixel 8 preserves the advanced 2D face unlock system that was initially introduced in the Pixel 8 Pro, ensuring quick and secure facial recognition. Moreover, it incorporates a convenient under-display fingerprint scanner for enhanced convenience.

Google Pixel 8 Review: Impressive Camera

The main feature of the Pixel 8 is its dual rear camera, which includes a 50 MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.7 and OIS support, as well as a 12MP ultrawide sensor. Images captured using the main camera sensor typically exhibit a high level of clarity and cleanliness, complemented by Google’s signature color technology. This allows users to easily share photos without the need for any further editing. Additionally, the phone excels in capturing exceptional shots in low-light environments, as long as there is a brief moment to spare. The HDR capabilities are particularly impressive, thanks to the advanced software enhancements developed by the company.

Focus & Lighting

While acknowledging the minor flaws, it should be noted that the device may struggle to accurately focus on subjects in situations where there is varying lighting from multiple sources. As a consequence, this can lead to photos appearing grainy. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the phone does have a slower capture time in similar scenarios, which could result in subjects moving and shots being captured with less intricate details.

Resolution Perform

The ultra-wide camera with a 12MP resolution performs exceptionally well in daylight. Even in low light situations, the software enhancements enable the sensor to capture impressive shots. Furthermore, it introduces a macrophotography mode that allows for capturing detailed close-up shots of objects, thereby enhancing the camera’s versatility. Additionally, the phone is equipped with a 10.5 MP front-facing camera that produces sharp images in various conditions.

Software Supports

The Pixel 8 device comes with several generative AI tools that are also found in the Pixel 8 Pro. These tools include Best Take, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser. However, the device does not offer complete manual control in the camera app and some advanced features are missing. The Pixel 8 does support digital zoom up to 8x, and the results are quite impressive when it comes to software enhanced zooming. The absence of an optical zoom lens may disappoint users looking for greater flexibility.

Video & Streaming Capabilities

With its exceptional video capabilities, the Pixel 8 is able to record 4K60 on all of its cameras, including the front-facing one. It provides a range of frame rate options from 24fps to 60fps and supports popular codecs such as h.264 and h.265. The main camera of the Pixel 8 captures impressive detail, offers a wide dynamic range, accurate white balance, and produces pleasing colors. When zoomed in at 2x, there is a slight softness, but overall image quality remains good.

Ultrawide Capabilities

The ultrawide camera performs well in most aspects, although it lacks detail in low light situations. However, its stabilization capabilities are commendable, resulting in smooth footage. While it competes well with other devices, heavy movement may still favor an iPhone when it comes to video stability.

Final Verdict

The Pixel 8 upholds Google’s tradition of delivering outstanding Android experiences. It features a top-notch screen, impressive camera capabilities, and an elegant design. With its sleek and premium build, as well as its manageable size, this device is an attractive option for users who value compactness without sacrificing premium features.

Google Pixel 8 Our Recomandations

During my two-week trip in Turkey, I utilized the Google Pixel 8 as my primary device. I discovered that it was noticeably smaller and possessed better ergonomics compared to the Pixel 8 Pro. If you are seeking a smartphone for leisurely internet browsing and occasional photography, this is the ideal choice. Nevertheless, it is advisable to select a higher storage capacity and ensure that it can handle the idiosyncrasies of the camera. Keep reading for my detailed impressions on the design, camera capabilities, and additional features of the Pixel 8.
